VENUS was directed by Jesca Prudencio for UCSD in January 2015.

The director and I thought it was imperative for the truth to be as real and grotesque as possible. We wanted to highlight how inhumane people that were considered “other” or with deformities were treated, during this time. Some of the questions we asked ourselves were, how did these people survive physically and mentally? and if the only place you had to hide, was within yourself what does that look like? The costume research for this show was very intensive and hands on. I needed to feel the grit, I needed to cut and paste, inhale and tear, write and rewrite a new history.
