TRES ACTOS was directed by Alma Martinez for University of LaVerne Theatre in November 2016.

Tres Actos is a Teatro Campesino compilation of one-acts brought together as a political statement showcasing the injustices and falsehoods facing Chicano culture in America.  Our Director, Alma Martinez, was a participating member of Teatro Campesino and was able to provide valuable insight into their base mission as a company and as activists for change.  We sought to honor Teatro Campesino’s intentions and methods of presentation using the artistic styles of “Rasquatche” and “Arte Povera” within the design – utilizing the idea of natural materials and upcycling the things around you to create art.   In the Costume Design, that meant staying grounded and earthy, thrifting and utilizing costume stock already in existence to create the majority of the looks, and for those outlandish comedic characters the necessitated a “Costume”-y look, using everyday objects massed together to create more ornate pieces.  Like a beautiful ornate necklace made for an Aztec Goddess using cheap street earrings from a Mexican Market nearby.
