Water and its representation of time and how it passes all things like joyful and tragic; and love and its ongoing building of recollection and reconstructing; were the biggest ideas to communicate to an audience. With the Director and Scenic Designer, setting the Underworld an under-water hotel to reflect these ideals, costumes needed to help carry that idea across, and show the difference between the Underworld and the living. I along with the director also shifted the decade we start in, which would be the 1900s, to give a more contrasting visual representation of time. Time and water, and how that could be reflected in costumes through distressing, period-appropriate clothing, and inspired by under-water sea-life were all common through-lines in my research.
